Nashville --- The Tennessee State
University softball team dropped its
seventh straight after being swept by visiting Middle Tennessee
State University
in Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader at Tiger Field.
The Tigers suffered a 12-0 mercy rule loss in game one
before dropping a 3-0 decision in the second game.
In game one, Middle
Tennessee State
(11-30) got on the board in the second inning after a lead off double coupled
with a wild pitch and a triple to right center gave the Blue Raiders a 1-0
lead.
Tennessee
State (17-28) threatened
to answer in the bottom half of the frame after Christy Hill tripled to right
center. Hill, however, would be left stranded on base.
That would prove to be TSU's only hit of the game. In the
meantime, MTSU used a four-hit, seven-run inning to open up an 8-0 lead in the
top of the fourth.
The Blue Raiders added four more runs in the top of the
fifth to increase the lead to 12-0, the final score.
Megan Hedrick (3-12) was charged with the loss for TSU.
In the second game of the doubleheader, MTSU used three hits
to capture a 2-0 lead in the fourth. TSU's offense continued to struggle as the
Tigers only tallied two hits in the game.
MTSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh before going on to win 3-0.
Caitlin Eaton (11-12) was tagged with the loss.
For the day, Jennifer Culberson had two stolen bases. As a
team, TSU tallied three hits and batted .079 in the doubleheader.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host the
Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech in a single game. The contest is slated to
begin at 5 p.m.
