Jacksonville, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University softball team dropped a, 5-1, decision to Jacksonville State before suffering a 12-4 loss to the Gamecocks in game two.

Tennessee State fell to 11-33 (6-15 OVC) while Jacksonville State improved to 26-27 (12-6 OVC) and moved into second place in the league standings.

The Tigers had a .149 batting average and tallied seven hits as a team in the doubleheader while the Gamecocks hit .421 and turned in 24 hits.

Game one

TSU only managed two hits and one run against JSU pitcher Ashley Eliasson.

The Tigers fell behind, 2-0, in the first inning and went without a score through the first three frames. TSU finally got on the board in the fourth inning, briefly cutting the JSU lead in half, 2-1.

Brittany Webb led the inning off with a double to left center before advancing to third on a ground out by Hannah Schnebly. Webb crossed the plate following a sacrifice fly by Bridget Metzger.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Gamecocks added two more runs before adding an insurance run in the sixth to make the score, 5-1.

The Tigers were not able to overcome the deficit.

Brittany Webb (1-for-3) and Christy Hill (1-for-1) recorded TSU's only hits of the game. Hannah Schnebly (6-9) picked up the loss for TSU while Ashley Eliasson (17-7) earned the win for JSU.

Game two

The Tigers struck first grabbing 1-0 lead in the first inning when Caitlin Eaton drove in Bridget Metzger.  The advantage, however, would be short lived as the Gamecocks answered in their half of the frame to knot the contest 1-1.

JSU took a 2-1 lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the second before TSU recaptured the lead, 3-2, behind a two-run third inning. After Bridget Metzger reached on a fielding error, Brittany Webb recorded her third homerun of the season with a bomb to left field.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Gamecocks once again climbed on top after posting three runs in the frame. The Tigers added another run in the top of the fifth when Tedra Alford recorded her first career homer with a shot to left field to come within one, 5-4, but that would be as close as they would get.

JSU tacked on four runs in the fifth before scoring three in the sixth to make the final score, 12-4.

Caitlin Eaton went 2-of-3 at the plate for TSU while Brittany Webb led the team with two RBI. Megan Hedrick (3-8) was charged with the loss as Natalie Papini and Eaton also saw action from the circle.

The series will conclude tomorrow with game three beginning at 1 p.m. at University Field.
