DeLand, Fla. --- The Tennessee State University softball team was blanked on day one of the Stetson Invitational.

Tennessee State dropped the opening game of the tournament to Elon University, 7-4, despite posting eight hits in the contest.

In the second  contest of he day, the weather caused problems but the teams were able to get through the game as TSU fell to Stetson, 1-0.

Game One

Tennessee State fell behind early after Elon posted runs in the opening three frames of the game. TSU was trailing, 6-0, when the Tigers put together a rally that resulted in three runs.

With two outs, Brooke Blackford singled to keep the inning alive. She advanced to second when Tedra Alford was hit by a pitch. Brittany Davis entered the game to pinch hit for Aisha Walker and came through.

Davis doubled to right center to drive in two runs. Caitlin Eaton kept the rally going when she singled to score another run.

TSU threatened in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings but was not able to capitalize as the Tigers left three runners stranded on base in both frames.

Kelly Troglin (2-3) was tagged with the loss. She registered three strikeouts and two walks in the losing effort.

Caitlin Eaton (2-for-4), Jill Gardner (2-for-3) and Brittany Webb (2-for-3) led the Tigers offensively as each player tallied two hits apiece while Brittany Davis (1-for-1) recorded a team-best two RBI.

Tennessee State finished the game with eight hits and two miscues while Elon University notched 10 hits and committed three errors.

Game Two

The Tigers dropped a 1-0, decision to tournament host Stetson in the second game of the day.

The game was delayed and was eventually called in the sixth inning due to the rain.

Caitlin Eaton (3-4) was charged with the loss while Tedra Alford (1-for-3), Jasmine Dunston (1-for-2) and Eaton (1-for-3) each recorded hits for TSU.

Both teams tallied three hits but the only run of the contest came in the third inning from Stetson. The Tigers left four runners stranded on base while the Hatters left five. Neither team committed an error. 

Weather permitting, the Tigers will continue tournament action tomorrow with contests against Binghamton University and Stetson.
