Deland, Fla. --- The Tennessee State University softball
team dropped a 4-2 decision to Binghamton University before falling to Stetson,
3-0, in the evening game.
Game One
Tennessee State (6-14) struck first when Caitlin Eaton hit a
solo homerun to give TSU a, 1-0, lead in the first inning.
Binghamton (2-1), however, answered in the bottom of the
next frame with a solo homerun to even the score.
The Bearcats added to their lead in the third behind a
two-run homerun. Another run in the fifth would make the BU advantage, 4-1, in
the bottom of the fifth.
A walk, single and throwing error led to TSU getting runners
on second and third with only one out in the top of the sixth. A ground out by
Brittany Davis drove a run in for TSU but that would be the last time the
Tigers would score.
Kelly Troglin (2-4) picked up her fourth loss of the season
as she gave up seven hits, four runs and two walks. She also registered three
strikeouts in the contest.
Tedra Alford went 2-of-4 at the plate for TSU while Caitlin Eaton
(1-for-4), Ashley Haynes (1-for-2), Kelly Troglin (1-for-3) each tallied hits
for the Tigers.
Tennessee State finished the game with five hits and one
error while Binghamton recorded seven hits and two miscues. TSU left seven
runners stranded on base while BU stranded six.
Game Two
The first four innings were quiet as neither team scored
until Stetson (9-8) posted a couple of runs in the top of the fifth. The
Hatters used three hits and a TSU error to take a, 2-0, lead.
Stetson added to its lead in the top of the sixth following
a two-out solo homerun to right field.
The Tennessee State offense never picked up any momentum as
the Tigers were held without a run in the contest. TSU threatened in the second
inning with runners on second and third but eventually came up short.
Olivia Gomache (0-5) was charged with the loss as Jasmine
Dunston (2-of-3) recorded two hits for TSU. Gomache allowed six hits, three
runs and three walks while throwing three four strikeouts in the contest.
Tennessee State finished the game with two hits and one
error while Stetson notched six hits and did not commit any errors.
The Tigers will conclude play at the Steston Invitational
tomorrow with the consolation game against Elon at 10 a.m.
