Memphis, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University softball
team fell to Memphis, 7-2, in game one before dropping an, 8-0, decision in the
second game of the double header.
Tennessee State (10-36) dropped its sixth straight while
Memphis improved to 27-10 overall.
Game One
Freshman Olivia Gamache
was charged with loss while Kelly
Troglin also saw action in the circle for TSU. Lauren Carley earned the win for
Memphis.
Ashley Haynes
(2-for-3) led TSU offensively with two hits
and one RBI while Heather Mott paced the Memphis offense with three hits and
three RBI.
Memphis took a, 3-0, lead after scoring a run in the first
inning and another two in the second.
TSU answered in the top of the fourth with a couple runs
after Brittany Webb
and Jalisa Bradley
crossed the plate to pull TSU to within
one, 3-2.
In the bottom of the frame, however, Memphis used five hits
to post four runs and increased its advantage up to, 7-2.
Kelly Troglin
came in to pitch for Gamache and kept the
Memphis offense in check in the sixth and seventh innings but the Tigers were
unable to overcome the deficit.
Tennessee State finished the game with five hits and one
error while Memphis tallied 12 hits and no errors.
Game Two
Susie Burke
got the start for the Tigers in the circle in
game two. Burke managed to keep Memphis scoreless through the first couple of
innings but a four-spot in the third inning made the score, 4-0.
Memphis posted another four runs in the bottom of the fifth
to make the final score, 8-0.
UofM pitcher Carley Hummel threw a no-hitter in the contest and
improved to 15-4 on the season.
The Tigers return to OVC action this weekend on the road with a
three-game series at Morehead State University.
