Morehead, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University softball
team dropped a couple of games on the road at Morehead State Saturday afternoon
at University Field.
Tennessee State fell to 10-38 (4-19 OVC) while Morehead
State moved to (16-27, 8-12 OVC.)
Game One
Tennessee State saw Morehead State fire off five runs in the
opening frame and the Tigers never recovered. TSU's only run came in the third inning as MSU went on to
win, 9-1.
Jasmine Brimm went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk while
Tedra Alford (1-for-3), Brittany Webb (1-for-2) and Kelly Troglin (1-for-3)
also recorded hits in the contest.
Stephanie Etter led the Eagles with three RBI to go along
with two hits.
Kelly Troglin was tagged with the loss while Kelcey McMurray
earned with win for MSU.
Tennessee State had four hits and five errors in the game
while Morehead State recorded 13 hits and one error.
Game Two
The Tigers played better in the second game of the
doubleheader but came up on the short end of a, 12-4, decision.
Freshman Olivia Gamache tallied two strikeouts and gave up
five walks in the losing effort. Three pitchers saw action in the circle for
MSU with the win going to Kelcey McMurray.
Tedra Alford (2-for3) hit two homeruns in the game,
extending her season total to four, while Shanika Johnson (2-for-2) also
registered a homerun in the contest. Jasmine Brimm went 2-for-3 while Brittany
Webb also tallied a hit.
The Tigers got on the board early after Tedra Alford hit a
solo homerun to left field in the first inning. TSU increased its lead to, 4-0,
behind three runs in the top of the third.
Back-to-back homers from Shanika Johnson and Alford put TSU
up, 3-0, before Jasmine Brimm doubled and later scored on a single by Brittany
Webb to make the score, 4-0, in favor of the Tigers.
MSU answered in the bottom of the third with four runs
behind five hits and one TSU error to tie the game at 4-all.
TSU had a chance to add to its lead in the top of the fourth
after loading the bases with only one out but the Tigers were unable to capitalize
and left three runners stranded on base.
In the meantime, the Eagles used another 4-spot in the
bottom of the fourth to go on top, 8-4. The Eagles then stretched their
advantage to, 12-4, after posting four more runs in the fifth inning.
TSU finished the game with seven hits and two errors wile
MSU had 12 hits and two miscues.
TSU will face Morehead in the series finale, Sunday
afternoon at 1 p.m.
