Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team
dropped game one, 6-5, to Southeast Missouri before dropping a, 5-3, decision
to the Redhawks in game two.
Tennessee State battled from behind but SEMO belted out 14
hits to help edge the Tigers, 6-5, in game one.
After trailing early, TSU put together a rally in the
seventh inning but the comeback came up short in a, 5-3, loss to SEMO.
Game One
Caitlin Eaton
(6-13) was charged with the loss while Shea
Cothren (4-8) earned the win for SEMO. Alora Marble picked up her third save of
the season.
Jasmine Brimm
was 2-of-3 at the plate to lead TSU while
Renee Kertz was a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate for SEMO.
Southeast Missouri used a couple of quick hits to grab an
early, 1-0, lead in the first inning before scoring another run in the second
to go ahead, 2-0.
Tennessee State was quiet through the first two innings. In
the meantime, SEMO increased its lead to, 3-0, in the third frame.
TSU finally got on the board in the bottom of the third.

reached base after being hit by a pitch. She advanced to second on
a groundout by Ashley Haynes
before scoring on a single by Tedra Alford
.
Jasmine Brimm
kept the rally going with a single through the
left side. The next batter, Jalisa Bradley
, singled to left field to score Alford
and pull TSU to within one, 3-2. The Tigers grabbed the lead, 4-3, when two
more runs scored on a SEMO error.
In the fifth inning, a hit and a couple of walks loaded the
bases for TSU with no outs. Jasmine Dunston
drove in a run with a ground out to make the Tigers' lead, 5-3, but that would
be the only run that TSU would score in the inning.
A costly error led to SEMO getting its lead off runner on
second base, in the top of the sixth. The miscue sparked a rally that saw the
Redhawks post three runs and reclaim the lead, 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Webb walked and advanced to
second on a wild pitch with no outs but the Tigers were not able to capitalize
as SEMO held on to win, 6-5.
TSU finished the game with six hits and one error and while
SEMO registered 14 hits and two miscues.
Game Two
Kelly Troglin
(2-11) was charged with the loss while Alora
Marble (7-6) picked up the win for SEMO.
Jasmine Brimm
led TSU with three RBI while Jill Gardner
registered two runs. Kaitlin Wallace went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead
Southeast Missouri.
TSU fell behind, 2-0, after SEMO posted runs in the third
and fourth innings behind a couple of two-out hits.
The Tigers seemed primed to get on the board in the bottom
of the fourth after Kelly Troglin
reached second base with only one out. But
TSU left Troglin stranded on base.
SEMO increased the advantage to, 5-0, in the top of the
fifth after scoring three runs off five hits in the frame.
After a bunt single by Jill Gardner
and a double from Shanika
Johnson, Tedra Alford
walked to load the bases in the bottom of the fifth. TSU
scored when Gardner crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Jasmine Brimm
to make
the score, 5-1.
In the bottom of the frame, TSU put together a rally that
resulted in two runs. Jill Gardner
walked before Tedra Alford
reached on an
error. Jasmine Brimm
smacked a double into the gap and drove in two runs to
pull to TSU to within two, 5-3. The next batter, however, popped up to end the
TSU threat.
TSU finished the game with five hits and no errors while
SEMO tallied 11 hits and committed two errors.
The Tigers will conclude the series versus Southeast
Missouri tomorrow at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the 2011 seniors
will be recognized.
