NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women's golf team recorded the second best team score in school history on Friday in a match duel with Lipscomb. The Bison held on to defeat the Tigers 311-325 at the McCabe Golf Course.
Spicer led the way as she matched her career best with a 6-over, 77. The second year golfer set her previous 77 at the Big Blue Invitational as a freshman. Spicer hit 13-fo-14 fairways and 13 greens on her way to three birdies and nine pars on the day.
Merkel finished a stroke behind Spicer, as she hit seven fairways and found 11 greens. On the par-5, 3rd, Merkel found the right side rough off the tee box, leaving 180-yards to the green. The junior hit a 5-iron downwind that landed five feet from the pin. Merkel converted the putt for her lone eagle of the day.
Needleman scored for the Tigers with an 81, while Bremer added an 89. Imani Stingley posted a non-scoring 91 on the day.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Apr. 10, as they take part in the two-day, 36-hole Time Warner Classic. The Murray State event will be played at the Miller Memorial Golf Course.
