PADUCAH, Ky. — Lorien Sweet tied for 47th to lead the Tennessee State women's golf team at The Velvet Classic, hosted by Murray State Sept. 14-15 at the Country Club of Paducah.
The Tigers finished 14th with a three-round total of 1,000, finishing 136 over par. Tennessee State posted rounds of 331 and 341 before closing with its lowest team round of the tournament, a 328.
Sweet finished at 21-over 237, opening with an 81 before shooting 77 and 79. She recorded Tennessee State's lowest score in each of the final two rounds.
London Valdez placed 64th at 32-over 248. Valdez opened with a 4-over-par 76, the Tigers' lowest individual round of the tournament, before posting scores of 88 and 84.
Delilah Dean finished 67th at 40-over 256, following consecutive rounds of 87 with an 82. TaLese Vaughn tied for 69th at 43-over 259 after shooting 87, 89 and 83.
Kennedy Sever placed 75th at 72-over 288, posting rounds of 97, 97 and 94. All five Tennessee State golfers improved their scores from the second round to the third.
West Florida defeated Austin Peay in a playoff for the team title after both finished at 18-over 882. West Georgia placed third at 27-over 891.
West Florida's Mariana Arronte earned individual medalist honors at 2-under 214, finishing five strokes ahead of the runners-up.
