JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Tennessee State Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles closed out East Tennessee State's Buccaneer Invite with five first-place finishes and a national ranking.
 
R'Lazon Brumfield's triple jump of 15.81m moved the senior into the thirteenth spot in the nation for triple jump, while newcomer Keandric Verge took second in his second meet in blue and white with a leap of 13.88m.  
 
On the track, Zavante Chichester placed first in the 60-meter hurdles 8.42. followed closely by Montrell Milsap who took third 8.50. Michael Thompson ran the 400-meter dash in 50.58 for second, Baylor Segree just .10 seconds behind him to place third.  
 
Big Blue continued its tradition of leading the pack in the 4x400-meter relay, placing first  with a time of 3:21.13. Segree, Brumfield, Thompson and Kiyontae Warren made up the winning quad.
 
Freshman Janiyah Townsend was the standout Tigerbelle of day two at the Buccaneer Invite as the Orlando native placed first in the 60-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash. Two additional newcomers placed in their respective events - Elaina Housworth first in the triple jump recording a 11.48m leap and Bailey Smith third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.14. Veteran Alysoune Coleman earned third in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 59.19.
 
The track and field teams return to action Friday, Feb. 12 in Birmingham, Alabama, for the Samford Invite.
