Track and Field Head to Tennessee Invite This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee State track and field team returns to competition this weekend, traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Tennessee Invite at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium on April 10–11.

The meet will feature a strong field of regional and national programs as the Tigers continue their outdoor campaign and look to build momentum heading toward championship season.

LAST TIME OUT

Tennessee State delivered several standout performances at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Miss., highlighted by multiple podium finishes and personal-best marks.

On the track, Caleb Joshway led the sprint group with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (10.42) and a third-place showing in the 200 meters (21.45). Serenity Harry paced the women's sprinters, clocking 12.01 in the 100 meters and placing ninth in the 200 meters.

The hurdle crew produced strong results as Bobby Teixeira and Brian Townsend each ran 14.65 in the 110-meter hurdles, while Kylen Thorps recorded a personal-best 53.32 to finish second in the 400-meter hurdles.

In middle-distance action, Robert Hooper posted one of the Tigers' top performances of the weekend, earning a runner-up finish in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:51.21. Devin Jones also recorded a personal best in the 400 meters (47.72) to place third overall.

The field events saw continued success, led by Jonathan Wade, who cleared 2.00 meters in the high jump for third place and added another third-place finish in the long jump (6.90m). Carolyn McRee highlighted the women's throws with a personal-best 38.96 meters in the discus, while several Tigers added personal records across sprint, distance and field events.

THIS WEEKEND

The Tennessee Invite provides another high-level competitive opportunity for the Tigers, featuring a full slate of track and field events across two days.

Tennessee State athletes are scheduled to compete in:

  • Sprints and relays
  • Hurdles and middle-distance events
  • Distance races
  • Jumps and throwing events

The meet serves as an important evaluation point as athletes continue improving marks, pursuing qualifying standards and preparing for postseason competition.
