Brumfield Leads Flying Tigers at Ed Temple Classic

NASHVILLER'Lazon Brumfield led the Tennessee State Flying Tigers men's indoor track and field team with three first place finishes at the Ed Temple Classic hosted by TSU at the Gentry Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
Brumfield won two field events and one on the elevated track. His first win came in the long jump with a 7.46 mark. He followed that up with a 15.87 mark in the triple jump. Up on the track, Brumfield won the 200m in 22.13.
 
TSU finished 1-4 in the 400m with Michael Thompson winning the event in 51.76. Tyhir Joyner came in second in 52.14. Lamarco Petty (53.92) and Julian Harris (54.45) rounded out the top four finishes for TSU.
 
Zavante Chichester won the 55m hurdles in 7.86.
 
The Tigers also swept the 800m with Nicholas Smith finishing first in 2:06.17 followed by Barge (2:08.58) and Devin Jackson (2:16.38).
 
Other notable finishes for the Flying Tigers:
 
Keandric Verge second in the high jump with a 1.91 mark. Verge also finished second with a 13.54m.
 
Hasani Williams finished second in the 55m 8.13.  
 
Thaddee Barge finished second in the 1-mile in 4:41.22.
 
Petty finished second 22.56 and Derrick Redmon finished third (22.87) in the 200m.
 
TSU finished second in the 4x400 in 3:33.45. The group consisted of Redmond, Kiyontae Warren, Thompson and Brumfield.
 
TSU will compete at the Martin Luther King Jr. College Invitation on Jan. 15 in Louisville before returning to Nashville to compete at Vanderbilt the weekend of Jan. 21-22.
