BIRMINGHAM — The Tennessee State Flying Tigers indoor track and field team competed at the Samford Bulldog Open Invitational over the weekend with top finishes in the field events.
The Flying Tigers got a great performance from Keandric Verge, who placed in the top five in both the long jump and triple jump.
Verge placed second in the long jump with a distance of 7.09m. The winner from Piedmont finished in 7.16m.
Verge finished the field events with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump in 14.44m.
In the high jump, Jon'Terio Horton finished fourth with a distance of 1.95m. Verge finished 12th in 1.90m.
Three Flying Tigers finished in the top 45 of the 200m dash finals — Tyjir Joyner finished 25th in the 200m dash finals in 22.35. Kiyontae Warren placed 35th in 22.70 and Marius Steward finished 42nd in 22.89.
In the 400m dash finals, Derrick Redmond finished 25th in 50.28 and Morgan Jones crossed in 50.68 for 29th place.
Thaddee Barge had a top-20 finish in the 800m race (2 ally start), as he placed 16th on 1:57/57. Nicholas Smith was behind Barge in 21st place in 2:00.98.
The Flying Tigers return to the track next weekend at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship.
