Flying Tigers Open Outdoor Season at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. — The Tennessee State University Flying Tigers outdoor track and field team competed at the Ole Miss Classic to open the final portion of the 2021-22 campaign. 

Michael Thompson had a strong third-place run in the 400m coming in at 47.89. Thompson's run was just 0.27 tenths of a second behind the second-place finisher from Ole Miss. 

The Flying Tigers placed fifth in the 4x100 relay with Amari Jelks, Brumfield, Marius Steward and Derick Redmon finishing in 42.22. The team also placed fifth in the longer 4x400 with the "A" group consisting of Thompson, Redmon, Morgan Jones and Thaddee Barge in 3:21.39. 

R'Lazon Brumfield placed eighth in the 100m in 10.80. In the 110m hurdles, Zavante Chichester crossed ninth in 15.24. Kiyontae Warren took 13th in the 400m hurdles at 56.92.  Tyjhir Joyner finished 14th in the 200m in 22.09. 

In the field, Brumfield finished second in the long jump (7.45m), Keandric Verge was third in the triple jump (14.30m) and Jon'Terio Horton claimed sixth in the high jump (1.96m). 

The Flying Tigers will now prepare for the Hilltopper Relays, April 1-2.
