Softball Set to Continue Florida Road Trip

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Tennessee State softball team is set to continue its Florida road trip with meetings against Bethune-Cookman, Jacksonville and North Florida in the next two days.

Get to Know TSU (7-11, 0-0 OVC): The Tigers wrapped up a weekend series against the likes of Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and the host-institution, No. 4 Florida. TSU capped off the Bubly Invitational with a victory over Georgia State on Sunday morning, 5-4. Peyton Fointno led the team with three hits, while Lauryn Kinkle tallied two hits including a double, RBI and scored the tying run. Lauren Farias drove in the winning run with an RBI triple against GSU. Fointno's tied for the team-lead in hits (13) and RBI (8) with Mikayla Duke and Anayah Baker, respectively. Freshman outfielder, Jasmine Brown, leads the Tigers with five stolen bases in seven attempts. Tennessee State has a committee amongst the pitching rotation as all three pitchers have made at least nine appearances, while Caitlyn Manus leads the team in ERA (2.33), strikeouts (34), opponent batting average (.207) in 39 innings of work.
 
Get to Know Bethune-Cookman (5-14, 0-0 SWAC): The Wildcats have started the year on the road with tournaments in California and Florida. Bethune-Cookman will host TSU for their home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach. On Sunday, B-CU defeated Stetson, 4-1, behind a three-run homer from Ciera Clark. The Wildcats snapped a nine-game losing streak with the victory. Haley Parks leads the way with 13 hits, eight runs scored and seven walks, while Clark leads the team with seven RBI and two doubles. Bethune-Cookman's freshman pitcher, Hannah Ortega, has tossed with four complete games in 13 appearances as she owns a 3.31 ERA in 55 innings pitched.
 
Get to Know Jacksonville (6-13, 0-0 ASUN): The Dolphins secured three wins in four games this past weekend in the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge as Jacksonville defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and Holy Cross twice, while falling to Saint Francis by one run. In the first game of the weekend against FDU, JU rallied from behind to earn a victory, 4-3, in extra innings. Victoria Rodebaugh and Allison Bratek are tied for the lead in hits (17), while Rodebaugh leads the way with 10 RBI. Bratek's recorded a team-leading seven extra-base hits, including a team-best two triples and two home runs.
 
Get to Know North Florida (16-5, 0-0 ASUN): UNF enters the mid-week matchup on an eight-game winning streak, including seven shutouts and two mercy-rule victories. Halle Arends has posted two complete games in seven wins, a 1.11 ERA, along with 40 strikeouts and only seven earned runs in 44 innings pitched. This past weekend, she went 2-0 with 15 K's in 13 innings and no earned runs. The pitching staff is deep as Morgan Clausen owns the best ERA (0.67) in the ASUN, while Erin Kyle's pitched a team-best 46 innings with a 2.13 ERA and four wins. Paige Pfent snapped her 32-game hit streak against Monmouth. During the Spring Break Challenge, Pfent totaled a 4.67 batting average, four runs, four RBI and 10 total bases in five games. Kayla Harper uses her speed to her advantage as she's swiped 13 stolen bases and scored 16 runs. In each of her last six appearances, she's been able to score a run.
