Brumfield, Thompson Lead Flying Tigers at Hilltopper Relays

NASHVILLE — R'Lazon Brumfield and Michael Thompson led the Tennessee State University Flying Tigers at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays over the weekend with winning performances in the 200m and 400m. 

Brumfield's race victory was in 22.30 as he defeated the second-place finisher from Lane by 0.02. Marius Steward placed seventh in the race in 22.63. 

The Flying Tigers also got a win in the 400m as Michael Thompson crushed the competition in 48.81. He defeated the next runner by 0.67. 

Zavante Chichester had a second-place performance in the 110m hurdles in 14.86 and Kiyontae Warren finished fifth (15.18). 

In the 400m, two Flying Tigers finished in the top six — Hasani Williams (5th - 56.80) and Warren (6th -56.82). Thaddee Barge finished sixth in the 800m in 1:56.68.

In team relays, TSU placed second in the 4x100 in 42.25 and the 4x400 in 3:23.04. 

In field events, Brumfield won the triple jump with a distance of 15.62m. Keandric Verge had a great outing with top five finishes in three events — triple jump (2nd - 14.65m), long jump (2nd - 6.75m), and high jump (5th - 1.85m).

The Flying Tigers will next compete April 15-16 at the Kennesaw State Invitational.
