BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —
R'Lazon Brumfield of the Tennessee State University Flying Tigers advanced to his third NCAA Division I Track & Field Outdoor Championships after a 5th-place performance at the Outdoor East Regionals on Friday at Indiana University.
Brumfield's mark of 16.02m came in his third attempt after distances of 15.93m and 15.18m in his first two chances.
Last year, Brumfield advanced as the top jumper and then in 2019, he placed third.
LSU's Sean Dixon-Bodie won the Region with a 16.63m performance. His teammate Apalos Edwards came in second (16.20m), Miami's Russell Robinson finished third (16.13m) and Virginia's Owayne Owens finished fourth (16.05m).
The top 12 competitors from the East and West Regionals will advance to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon to compete for a spot on the podium on Friday, June 10 at 6:20 pm. PT.
