NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State University men's and women's track & field teams hosted its first Ed Temple Champion's Dinner on Friday. The event benefits students that come up short with tuition scholarships and equipment for the program. The event was held at the New Residence Hall, with almost 150 people in attendance.

TSU Director of Track & Field Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice decided to move the event to the night before the annual Ed Temple Classic because of timing. She was happy with the turnout.

"In the past, we had luncheons, but the timing wasn't right because we did it during Homecoming," said Cheeseborough-Guice. "Last night was amazing. The money will help the little things that help the program run. We are looking forward to the growth. We are excited about the direction that the program is going."

Tigerbelle Natasha Lane-Williams was the keynote speaker. She talked about the importance of partnership and the alums giving back to the program. Her message pointed toward raising funds to upgrade facilities—something she would like to see so the program can stay in step with the competition.

"Let's be honest; we need more funding," said Lane-Williams. "Our facilities need upgrading, so we can compete in recruiting. I am proud to be a Tigerbelle and want to see it succeed. I challenge all my fellow alums to help."
