Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles Combine for 11 First-Place Finishes in First Indoor Meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Dean Hayes Indoor Classic on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Middle Tennessee, and came away with 11 combined first-place finishes.
 
The Tigerbelles earned four first-place finishes with two coming on the field side, and two more coming on the track. Ayana Pugh took home first in the shot put with a toss of 11.78m. Elaina Housworth had a leap of 12.31m in the triple jump to take home the gold.
 
Sydney McGee represented the Tigerbelles on the track in the 400m run she clocked 59.97 to finish first. Serenity Harry closed things out on the women's side with a 1st place finish in the 200m dash after running a 25.01.
 
On the men's side, Forrest Saffo took home first in the shot put after having a throw of 13.38m. Freshman Korbin Brown took home two first-place finishes as he logged a 7.17m leap in the long jump, followed by a 1.97m jump in the high jump to take home the gold in both events.
 
The Flying Tigers earned four event wins on the track with Brian Townsend finishing in first place in the 55m hurdles after clocking an 8.10. Robert Hooper took home a win in the 1000m run with a time of 2:36.8. Oladipo Akomolafe notches a first-place finish in the 200m dash with a 21.95.
 
TSU's men's 4x400 relay team of Joshua McClendon, Kylen Thorps, Oladipo Akomolafe, and Morgan Jones earned 1st place with a 3:20.11.
 
Both teams will be back in action on January 6 as TSU will host the Ed Temple Classic.
