Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles Compete in Vanderbilt Music City Challenge, Verge Takes Home First in Triple Jump

NASHVILLE – The Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles had their final tune-up of the indoor track and field season on Friday and Saturday afternoon, as they competed in the Vanderbilt Music City Classic, their final meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships. This was one of the tougher meets for TSU as they went up against multiple schools from the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, and other large conferences. 
 
On the men's side, Keandric Verge, the reigning OVC Field Athlete of the Week, continued his strong indoor season as he finished in first place in the triple jump with a jump of 15.02. Anthony Ward earned 5th place in the triple jump with a 14.35.
 
Verge also had a solid showing in the long jump as he came in 4th place out of 23 contests with a 6.97m. Christian White was two places behind verge in 7th as he had a jump of 6.89m. Forrest Saffo earned a top-20 finish in the weight throw as he came in 17th place with a toss of 17.52m.
 
In the running events, Zavante Chichester performed well in the 60m hurdles as he logged a 6th-place finish with a time of 8.22. Morgan Jones clocked a 49.58 in the 400m to notch a 17th-place finish.
 
On the women's side, Catherine Forbes notched a 17th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.76m. Elaina Housworth came in 25th in the long jump after jumping a 5.47.
 
Serenity Harry finished tied for 21st out of 70 runners in the 200m dash with a 24.92. Sanura Branigan finished 36th in the 200m with a time of 25.20.
 
Both teams will be back in action on Feb. 22-23, as they will compete in the OVC Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
