Tigerbelles Close out OVC Indoor Championships with Three First Place Finishes; Housworth and Harry Earn Major Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  After collecting just three points on day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, the Tennessee State women's track and field team had a solid showing on the final day of the event, adding 76 points to finish in third place as a team with 79 overall points.
 
The Tigerbelles had two athletes earn first-place finishes to earn individual OVC Championships along with a relay team. Elaina Housworth finished in first place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.19m to take the gold. Giah Thomas ran a 56.38 in the 400m dash to take home first place in the event.  
 
In addition to earning third place as a team, the Tigerbelles also took home two yearly awards. Elaina Housworth was named the OVC's Female Field Athlete of the Year, while Serenity Harry was named the OVC's Female Freshman of the Year.
 
The 4x400 relay team of Sanura Branigan, Serenity Harry, Natalya Bryant, and Giah Thomas collected a first-place finish after running 3.49.0.
 
True freshman Serenity Harry had a solid first OVC Championship event as she logged third-place finishes in the 60m dash (7.61) and the 200m dash (24.37).
 
Catherine Forbes had a solid showing for the Tigerbelles as she notched three top-five finishes. Forbes placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.02m, followed by a fourth-place finish in the 60m dash after running a 7.67. Forbes placed fifth in the 200m dash with a 24.64.
 
Natalya Bryant totaled 3,288 points in the pentathlon to bring home a third-place finish. Bryant finished in first in the 60m hurdles and in the 800m in the pentathlon. Bryant also earned a top-five finish in the 60m hurdles as she came in third place overall after clocking an 8.84.
 
TSU will now get ready for its outdoor season, which is set to begin on March 23 as the Tigers will compete in the Morehouse relays in Atlanta, Ga.
