NASHVILLE – For the first time in program history, the Tennessee State women's golf team has had a player named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team as the league announced freshman Erin Marcelino to the five-member team on Sunday evening at the Ohio Valley Conference Award Banquet in Muscle Shoals, Ala., at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals.

The true freshman from Florida has had an incredible first year as a member of head golf coach Parrish McGrath's women's squad.

Marcelino has earned two OVC Golfer of the Week awards this year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Her first award came after she earned a 2nd place finish in the fall at the Alabama A&M Invite after finishing with a 162 (80, 82).

Her second Golfer of the Week award came after the Starks Invitational to open the spring season as she knocked six strokes off her two-round total to finish with a 152 (78, 78) and in second place.

Marcelino has a season-low round score of 77, which she has tallied three times. She has an average round score of 79.93 through 15 rounds this year.

"I am so proud of the work Erin has put in this year. I can see the maturity she's gained over this year and it's making her a better player", stated Coach McGrath. "Today was a great example of how she has grown as a player. The wind was brutal and when she was faced with an impossible shot, she didn't try to force anything and just played the course as she found it. She made a lot of wise decisions that freshmen are not known for making. I am looking forward to watching her continue to grow over the next three years".
