Tigerbelles Compete in Final Outdoor Meet Before Conference

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State women's track and field team participated in the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt on Friday and Saturday.
 
Freshman Serenity Harry led the Tigers in the women's 100 meters finals, finishing third with a time of 11.81 seconds. Harry also placed fifth in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.43 seconds.
 
Freshman Sydney McGee finished 20th in the women's 400 meters with a time of 58.08 seconds, while Catherine Forbes finished 29th with a time of 59.72 seconds. Junior India Smith finished 31st with a time of 1:04.14.
 
In the women's 100 hurdles preliminaries, Natalya Bryant finished 11th with a time of 14.77 seconds.
 
Quinn Hudson finished 17th in the women's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.62.
 
TSU had a successful outing at the Women's Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer events. Elaina Housworth, a junior, led the way with a top finish in the Triple Jump, recording a mark of 12.34 meters (40 feet, 6 inches).
 
In the Shot Put, Leilany Laureano finished 13th with a throw of 12.34 meters (40 feet, 6 inches). Maleah Decuir and Ayana Pugh also competed for Tennessee State, finishing 19th and 20th, respectively.
 
In the Discus, Laureano had another strong showing, finishing 8th with a throw of 42.95 meters (140 feet, 11 inches). Pugh also competed and finished 15th.
 
DeCuir and Pugh rounded out Tennessee State's performances with 14th and 20th place finishes in the Hammer, recording throws of 45.01 meters (147 feet, 8 inches) and 37.71 meters (123 feet, 9 inches), respectively.

The Tigers will have a week off before they are set to return to action May 11-13 as they will compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
