EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Tennessee State men's track and field team wrapped up the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon as they finished in 6
th place out of nine teams with 52.50 points in the three-day Championship event.
The Flying Tigers earned two individual medals and one medal in the relays.
Kenyon Johnson earned the OVC Championship crown in the triple jump as he took home 1
st place with a leap of 15.39m to give TSU 10 points.
True freshman
Thurman McMullen logged a 2
nd place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.35 to pick up eight points. The 4 x 400 relay team of
Quest Agee,
Thaddee Barge,
Evan Echols, and McMullen logged a 3
rd place finish with a time of 3:17.78 to give TSU six points.
Starting with the field events,
Jon'Terio Horton earned 8
th in the high jump with a 1.93m to get 0.5 points.
David Dorsey led the way for TSU in the long jump with a leap of 7.53m to finish in 5
th place with four points.
Keandric Verge finished one spot back in 6
th with a jump of 7.46 to get three points.
Anthony Ward came in 8
th with a 7.422m to get one point.
Behind Johnson in the triple jump was Verge who finished in 4
th with a mark of 15.18m to pick up five points. Dorsey came in 6
th with a 14.84, while Ward was in 7
th with a 14.77m as they earned three and two points respectively.
Forrest Saffo picked up a point in the hammer throw as he came in 8
th place with a 53.54m toss.
In the running events,
Zavante Chichester finished in 7
th place in the 110 hurdles with a 14.90 to pick up two points. McMullen finished in 7
th in the 400m hurdles with a 56.71 to pick up two points.
The 4 x 100 relay team of
Amari Jelks, Agee, Ward, and McMullen logged a 4th-place finish with a time of 41.43 to give the team five points.
TSU will now send McMullen, Johnson, and the 4 x 400 relay team to regionals as they all earned top-three finishes.
