NASHVILLE – Tennessee State's men's track and field team is sending a talented trio to compete at the NCAA East First Round Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., this week.
Representing the Flying Tigers are David Dorsey, Kenyon Johnson, and Keandric Verge. Dorsey will showcase his skills in the long jump, while Johnson and Verge will compete in the triple jump.
The meet, hosted by North Florida, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday with Dorsey's long jump at 6:00 p.m. ET. The triple jump will follow on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET.
Dorsey enters the event with an impressive season-long jump of 7.53m, achieved at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, where he secured a 5th-place finish. In the Morehouse Relays, the junior earned a 4th place with a jump of 6.79m.
Johnson has had an outstanding debut season with the Tigers after transferring from Iowa Western Community College. He claimed a 1st place finish in the triple jump at the OVC Indoor Championships, and continued his success with a 1st place finish at the OVC Outdoor Championships, leaping 15.39m. His best jump of the season was an impressive 15.49m at the Music City Challenge, earning him another 1st place mark.
Verge, following his second-place finish in the OVC triple jump last season, continued to excel in his junior year, earning a spot in the NCAA East First Round Championships for the triple jump. He achieved his best jump of the season, 15.33m, at the Spec Towns – Torrin Lawrence Invitational, securing a 2nd place finish.
The Watertown native demonstrated his skills with a 1st place finish at the Morehouse Relays, jumping 14.83m, and another 1st place at the JMU Invite with a 15.2m. In the OVC, he finished 4th with a jump of 15.18m.
