Flying Tigers Rack up Seven First Place Finishes in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Tennessee State men's track and field team shined in the Florida Sun as it competed in the Bob Hayes Invitational held in Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday and Saturday. The Flying Tigers logged seven first-place finishes in the two-day meet, marking their first of the outdoor season.

In the men's 100m event, John Davis clocked in at 11.01 seconds, securing third place, followed by teammates Joshua McClendon at 11.29 seconds and Amari Jelks at 11.33 seconds.

Thurman McMullen delivered an impressive performance in the men's 110m hurdles, clinching second place with a time of 14.49 seconds. Brian Townsend and Israel Fayne followed with times of 16.22 seconds and 16.32 seconds, respectively.

Oladipo Akomolafe led the charge in the men's 200m Bob Hayes event, claiming the top spot with a time of 21.53 seconds. Caleb Joshway closely followed with a time of 21.92 seconds.

In the men's 200m, John Davis set a personal record with a time of 21.88 seconds, securing third place, while Morgan Jones finished ninth with a time of 22.20 seconds.

The men's 400m saw Morgan Jones finishing second with a time of 48.27 seconds, followed by Nigel Simon Jr. in fourth place with a time of 48.85 seconds.

Thurman McMullen dominated the men's 400m hurdles, securing first place with a time of 55.06 seconds, while Jamie Henderson finished 14th with a time of 1:06.03.

In the field events, Forrest Saffo led the charge in the men's hammer throw, claiming first place with a distance of 51.03m. In the men's triple jump, Kenyon Johnson clinched the top spot with a distance of 14.72m, while Keandric Verge followed closely in third place with a 14.42.

The men's long jump saw two Flying Tigers tie for first place as Korbin Brown and David Dorsey both finished with nice leaps of 6.97m.

The men's 4x400 Meter Relay team secured first place after clocking a 46.55. The team consisted of Morgan Jones, Quest Agee, Joshua McClendon, and Oladipo Akomolafe.
