NASHVILLE — Tennessee State track and field continued the indoor season in strong fashion on Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational inside the Multipurpose Building.
The meet featured a mix of field and sprint events, and while placements ranged across the board, several performances stood out as early indicators of growth and promise for the Tigers.
On the women's side, Madison Houston-Boykin set the tone in the high jump, clearing 1.49 meters to secure an 11th-place finish in a tightly contested field. In the long jump,
Olivia Allison followed with a mark of 5.01 meters, finishing 21st.
The Tigers found momentum in the throwing circle as
Ayana Pugh led the women's weight throw group with a 10th-place finish, recording a throw of 13.94 meters. Close behind her was
Carolyn McRee, who placed 12th with a solid mark of 13.77 meters.
The men's long jump group was led by
Korbin Brown, who posted a jump of 6.62 meters to finish 14th overall. Donte Branes added a 20th-place effort at 6.06 meters, while
Zavier Williams rounded out the event for the Tigers with a mark of 5.66 meters.
Beginning with the women's the 200-meter dash,
Serenity Harry paced TSU with a time of 25.37 seconds, finishing 21st, while
Kaymin Sales (25.95) and Amarie Khan (26.39) followed in 28th and 33rd.
The highlight of the day came in the men's 200 meters, where junior
Caleb Joshway delivered one of the Tigers' top performances. Joshway surged to a third-place finish with a time of 21.45 seconds.
Joshua McClendon added a 36th-place finish in 22.70 seconds, while
Kai Bruce crossed in 46th with a time of 23.41.
??Tennessee State wrapped up competition Saturday at Vanderbilt with multiple top-10 finishes across field events, combined events, and relays during the final day of the indoor meet.
The men's heptathlon saw two Tigers place inside the top 15, led by
Israel Fayne, who finished seventh overall.
Preston Fuller followed with an 11th-place finish in the multi-event competition.
In the men's high jump,
Jonathan Wade placed seventh after clearing 1.74 meters.
The Tigers found success in the triple jump, with
Kolby Jones leading the way on the men's side. Jones placed fifth with a mark of 14.83 meters, hitting a new PR, while
Korbin Brown followed closely in sixth at 14.79 meters. On the women's side,
Olivia Allison finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.02 meters.
Bryce Sparks made a new PR, with a seventh-place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.34 seconds.
The women's shot put group was paced by
Ayana Pugh, who placed 10th with a throw of 12.23 meters.
Carolyn McRee added a 14th-place finish at 11.58 meters.
In the women's 800 meters,
Haley Blades led TSU with a time of 2:23.48 to place 34th.
Sydney McGee (2:28.71) and Quinn Hudson (2:29.78) followed in 45th and 51st.
The men's 4x400 relay closed the day and delivered one of the day's top performances, as the quartet of
Kylen Thorps,
Devin Jones,
Nigel Simon, and
Joshua McClendon placed third overall with a time of 3:15.43 after finishing second in Heat 2. A second TSU relay team —
Aaron Davis,
Robert Hooper,
Delton White, and
Michael Harris — finished 12th in 3:22.77.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, January 30
th as they head to the Derby City to the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
