Track and Field Have Strong Showing At Lenny Lyles Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tennessee State track and field continued its indoor campaign Friday and Saturday at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.

Competing against a strong regional field, the Tigers showcased depth across sprints, middle distance, relays, and field events. Several standout performances highlighted the weekend as TSU continued to make steady progress through the indoor season.

On the women's side, Madison Houston-Boykin represented TSU in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters to place 40th overall. In the long jump, Olivia Allison finished 34th with a mark of 5.28 meters, while Haley Blades added a 29th-place effort at 4.82 meters.

Ayana Pugh competed in both throwing events for the Tigers, placing 32nd in the shot put with a throw of 11.67 meters and following with a 41st-place finish in the weight throw at 15.27 meters.

On the track, Serenity Harry led the women's 200-meter group, finishing 16th with a time of 24.93 seconds. A'marie Khan followed in 25th at 25.92, while Kaymin Sales crossed in 44th at 26.04. Sales also competed in the 400 meters, placing 20th in 59.13 seconds.

In the women's 800 meters, Sydnee McGee paced TSU with a time of 2:24.30 to finish 47th. Blades followed in 59th at 2:27.43, while Quinn Hudson rounded out the group in 72nd with a time of 2:34.63.

The men's sprint group turned in several strong performances, highlighted by Caleb Joshway's third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.52 seconds. Damon Jackson placed 48th in 22.95, recording a personal best, while Kai Bruce finished 52nd at 23.13.

In the men's 400 meters, Kylen Thorps led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in 49.03 seconds. Joshua McClendon followed closely in ninth at 48.96, and Nigel Simon added a 13th-place effort with a time of 50.38.

The Tigers also found success in the men's 800 meters, as Devin Jones placed 12th in 1:53.24. Robert Hooper followed in 14th at 1:53.34, while Delton White finished 58th in 1:57.82.

Field events continued to be a strength for TSU. Jonathan Wade cleared 1.98 meters in the men's high jump to place 17th, while Israel Fayne finished 35th at 1.88 meters. In the long jump, Christian White led the Tigers with a 31st-place finish at 6.54 meters, followed by Dont'e Branes in 38th (6.34) and Collin McCall in 43rd (6.25).

In the men's triple jump, Kolby Jones placed 22nd with a mark of 13.69 meters. Branes added a 27th-place finish at 13.22, while Zavier Williams recorded a jump of 12.42 meters to place 34th. On the women's side, Allison returned to the runway to finish 21st in the triple jump with a mark of 11.35 meters.

In the short sprints, Joshway and Jackson advanced to the men's 60-meter semifinals, placing 18th (6.89) and 30th (6.99), respectively. Harry represented TSU in the women's 60-meter semifinals, finishing 17th with a time of 7.67 seconds.

The hurdle groups were led by Bobby Teixeira and Brian Townsend in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Teixeira placed 22nd in 8.37 seconds, while Townsend finished 19th in 8.49, setting a personal best. Bryce Sparks added a 31st-place finish at 8.52. On the women's side, Kara Stewart finished 34th in 9.18, while Pearl Onwnmbikp placed 43rd at 9.55.

The weekend concluded with the men's 4x400 relay, as the quartet of Devin Jones, Kylen Thorps, Nigel Simon, and Joshua McClendon placed ninth overall in 3:15.30. A second TSU relay team consisting of Brian Townsend, Bobby Teixeira, Robert Hooper, and Aaron Davis finished 28th in 3:28.84.

Tennessee State will look to build on its momentum as the Tigers continue the indoor season in the coming weeks, traveling next to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
