NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's tennis team heads west this weekend for a pair of road matchups in Memphis, Tenn., taking on UAB and Memphis as part of a challenging non-conference slate.
The Tigers enter the weekend building on the foundation set during the 2024–25 season, where they posted a 7–13 overall record and finished strong in conference play with a 3–1 mark. Tennessee State was tested heavily away from home last year, playing 15 road matches, a stretch that hardened the lineup and provided valuable experience against regional and Power Five opponents.
That experience returns in full.
Tennessee State did not lose a single player from last season's roster, giving the Tigers one of the most experienced and cohesive lineups in recent years. Junior Alexander Adamec and Senior Nicholas Adamec headline a group that has grown together, alongside Christopher Bogelin, Taj Hibbert, Tatenda Mutetwa, and sophomore James Adler Germinal, who adds depth entering his first collegiate season.
Last season, TSU showed flashes of its potential late in the year, earning key wins over Eastern Illinois, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, Southern Indiana, and IU Indy. The Tigers also pushed several strong opponents to the brink, including a narrow 4–3 loss at UAB on March 3, marking their closest result against the Blazers in the series.
Against UAB, Tennessee State looks to flip the script after dropping both previous meetings, including last season's tightly contested 4–3 decision in Birmingham. The Tigers will aim to carry their improved doubles play and lineup continuity into the rematch.
TSU will also face Memphis, a program the Tigers have not beaten on the road, with previous meetings dating back to 2011. Despite the series history, the current Tigers enter the matchup with more experience and chemistry than in prior seasons, hoping to translate that growth into a breakthrough result.
This weekend's matches provide Tennessee State another opportunity to measure itself against strong regional competition while continuing to build momentum early in the spring. With a veteran roster, proven resilience, and lessons learned from a demanding 2024–25 campaign, the Tigers head to Memphis focused on turning close matches into defining wins.
