NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee State softball returns to Tiger Field this weekend as the Tigers host Western Illinois in a three-game conference series April 18–19.

Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., followed by a Sunday finale at 1 p.m.

The Tigers enter the weekend coming off a competitive midweek contest at Middle Tennessee, where Tennessee State recorded 11 hits in a 7-3 decision. JaKeyla McDaniel, Jasmine Blackburn, Alexis Woods and Mariyah Brown each produced multi-hit performances, while Kailyn Jean-Baptiste added a solo home run to highlight the offensive effort.

Building Momentum at the Plate

Tennessee State showed continued offensive progress in Murfreesboro, generating consistent traffic on the bases and producing runs in multiple innings. The Tigers collected contributions throughout the lineup and will look to carry that momentum back home this weekend.

McDaniel continues to spark the offense at the top of the order, while Blackburn and Brown have provided steady production in recent games. Jean-Baptiste's power presence adds another dimension as TSU searches for timely hits in conference play.

Series History vs. Western Illinois

Tennessee State has controlled the recent series against Western Illinois, holding a 5-1 advantage in meetings dating back to April 2024. The Tigers posted a five-game winning streak over the Leathernecks before Western Illinois claimed the most recent matchup in April 2025.

TSU owns a perfect 3-0 home record against Western Illinois during that span and has averaged 5.67 runs per game in the six-game series history. The teams last met in Macomb, Illinois, where the Tigers earned a doubleheader sweep before falling in the series finale.

Back at Tiger Field

Returning to Nashville provides an opportunity for Tennessee State to reset during the stretch run of conference play. With familiarity against Western Illinois and strong performances at home in the series history, the Tigers will aim to translate offensive production into results this weekend.
