Dickson, Tenn. --- Tennessee State finished in fourth place
at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship which concluded on
Wednesday at the GreyStone Golf Club.
Tennessee State captured its best finish since joining the
OVC in 1988. Ryan Smith (73-80-69) and Richard Gill (78-74-70) were the top
golfers for the Tigers, finishing in a tie for 16th overall with three round
totals of 222 (+6).
Chris Seibel, the day one and 27-hole leader, finished in
24th overall with a final round score of 78 (+6), after carding rounds of 70
and 76 in the opening frames.
Cameron Scitern tied for 28th and shot rounds of
77-77-72 to finish with a (+8) 226 while Chris McKay placed 45th and rounded
out the scorers for TSU with a 238 (85-77-76).
Murray State captured the championship and had combined
rounds of 286-295-284 to win by 18 strokes over Morehead State, marking the
third time in the last four years that the team championship had been decided
by more than 10 strokes.
Jacksonville State claimed the third spot while Eastern
Kentucky and Tennessee State tied for fourth. Tennessee Tech followed in sixth
and Austin Peay finished seventh. Tennessee-Martin (8th) and Eastern
Illinois (9th) wrapped up the board.
The Tigers will have little time to rest as they return to
action this weekend, May 1-2, at the
Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
The 36-hole tournament will feature 18 holes of competition each
day with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
