NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Winning performances by senior Clairwin Dameus and junior Amber Hughes highlighted the Tennessee State women's track and field team's effort at the Vanderbilt Season Opener on Saturday. 

Dameus was the lone competitor to break 6.00m in the long jump, earning first with a distance of 6.07m (19'11").

The Tigerbelles dominated the field in the 60m hurdles, capturing the top three slots on Saturday. Hughes bested the other competitors with a winning time of 8.42. She was followed closely by junior Crystal Williams (8.59) and Dameus (8.67). For Williams, it was a personal record for the event. 

Senior Angel Davis tossed 16.14m (52'11.50") in the weight throw, good enough to place third in the field. Two spots behind her was redshirt freshman Daimer Gordon with a distance of 15.75m (51'8.25") in her first collegiate action.

Davis also took home fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.81m (42'0.50").

In the triple jump, senior Amber Townsend finished fourth, reaching 12.06m (39'7") on her second attempt. Townsend's effort was the best in her career for an indoor event. 

Redshirt sophomore Christian Pryor, who took third at last year's OVC Outdoor Championship in the 800m, finished just over two seconds off the leader on Saturday, taking fifth in 2:15.57.

Senior Sharmill Wyatt tied for sixth in the high jump by clearing the bar set at 1.61m (5'3.25").

The next time the Tigerbelles compete is Jan. 10 when they host the Ed Temple Classic at the Gentry Center.
