The Tennessee State men's tennis team played two Ohio Valley Conference matches over the weekend, falling at Jacksonville State, 7-0, and at Tennessee Tech, 6-1.
The TSU lost all five doubles competitions on the weekend, but the team of Darryl Hale and Joseph Daniels came close to pulling one out at TTU, 8-6.
At JSU, the Gamecocks swept the singles events, but Daniel Bernal was all his opponent could handle, pushing him to a 6-4, 6-3 finish. Hale performed well, too, forcing a tiebreaker in the second set before going down, 6-1, 7-5.
Kyle Burton provided a highlight for TSU as he defeated his Golden Eagle foe in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-3.
The final match of the weekend proved to be the best as No. 5 Grant Maddox was narrowly defeated in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Maddox's marathon was the only three-setter on the weekend.
The Tigers will next hit the court at Alabama State on Apr. 1.
