NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2016 portion of the schedule for the Tennessee State women's track and field team began with the Ed Temple Classic on Sunday at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track inside the Gentry Center.

"Overall, I think we did pretty well for coming back from the Christmas break," TSU Director of Track and Field Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice said. "I think everybody put in quality work and it's headed in a good direction. Next week is Vanderbilt, and we're excited about where we're headed."

The Tigerbelles dominated the field events on the day, capturing first place in the long jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw.

On her first attempt in the long jump on Sunday, Clairwin Dameus turned in a distance of 5.92m (19'5.25") to win the event. The triple jump was also decided on the first jump with Amber Hughes reaching 13.07m (42'10.75"), winning the event by 10 inches.

Angel Davis won the shot put and weight throw on the day. In the shot put, Davis' distance of 12.29m (40'4") took to top spot, while her 16.22m (53'2.75") effort won the weight throw. Daimer Gordon also had a solid performance in the shot put, tying for third place with a distance of 11.34m (37'2.5").

In another good showing in a field event, Cyra Beard cleared the high jump bar at 1.54m (5'0.5") to tie for third place.

On the track, the Tigerbelles were victorious thanks to Hughes' winning time of 7.70 seconds in the 55m hurdles. She was followed by Dameus in second place in 7.75 with Crystal Williams checking in at fourth (8.14).
