TSU Women's Track and Field Wraps up Day One of Black & Gold Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The first day of the Black and Gold Invitational included a number of strong performances for the Tennessee State women's track and field team on Friday at the Vanderbilt Track.

The Tigerbelles excelled in the triple jump on the day led by Cyra Beard (Jackson, Tenn.) taking home third place overall with a distance of 11.92m. Amber Townsend (Atlanta, Ga.) was close behind in fourth with a mark of 11.90m, while Gabrielle Younginer (McDonough, Ga.) put together a ninth place finish by reaching 11.44m on her final attempt.

In the 200m, Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) clocked in at 24.21 to place fourth. Mikayla Banks (Houston, Texas) also had a good showing in the 200m with a time of 25.19.

Daimer Gordon (Ellenwood, Ga.) led TSU's efforts in the hammer with a distance of 48.41m. The distance, which is a personal record for Gordon, earned her seventh in the field of 29 student-athletes.

Competition at the Black & Gold Invitational wraps up tomorrow.
