CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Tigerbelles opened competition at the APSU Invitational on Friday night as team members competed in the triple jump and the javelin.
Sophomore Cyra Beard claimed a third place finish in the collegiate field with a leap of 39-05.50 (11.90m). Senior Amber Townsend finished fifth reaching 38-10.00 (11.6m), just ahead of freshman Brejhe Halls at 38-00.00 (11.58m). The jump marked a personal best for Halls, eclipsing her distance at the USF Bulls Invitational.
Freshman Gabrielle Younginer rounded out the competitors for Tennessee State with a jump of 37-08.00 (11.3m).
In the javelin, the Tigerbelles finished back-to-back in third and fourth, respectively. Senior Clairwin Dameus completed a throw of 37.55m, ahead of senior Sharmill Whyatt’s mark of 32.33m.
The final day of the invitational will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
