JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Tennessee State women's track and field All-American Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) earned a place in the NCAA Championships thanks to her fifth place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the final day of competition on Saturday.

After turning in a distance of 13.21m on her first attempt in the triple jump, Hughes set a new personal record on jump number two by reaching 13.50m (44'3.5") to take fifth place.  

Hughes, who placed fourth at this year's NCAA Indoor Championships in the triple jump, will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second time in her career. Last year, Hughes took part in the 100m hurdles in Eugene.

TSU will be sending two Tigerbelles to this year's NCAA Championships as senior Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) already qualified in the heptathlon for her performance during the regular season.

Also competing in the triple jump on Saturday, Amber Townsend (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 41st on the day with a distance of 12.12m (39'9.25") on her third jump.

The Tigerbelles concluded the three-day event with Hughes, Dameus, Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) and Christian Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) clocking in at 3:46.68 in the 4x400m relay to secure 23rd overall.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
