Men's Tennis Starts Season 1-0 After Taking Down Jacksonville State on Sunday Morning

Box Score NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's tennis team started their 2023 season off with a big win on Sunday morning, as they took down Jacksonville State in a tight 4-3 battle inside the Vanderbilt Indoor Tennis Courts.
 
TSU, who was picked to finish third in the South Division of the Horizon League, went 2-1 in doubles play and 3-3 in singles.
 
In doubles play, the duo of Diego Britt-Alvarez and Daniel Caraballo won 6-2 over JSU's Lucius Soller and Vanja Dobrnjac. TSU's other doubles winner was Nil Moinet and Pierre Copin who picked up a 7-5 victory.
 
The Tigers picked up three victories in singles play while also dropping three matches to win the overall match 4-3. Daniel Caraballo had a three-set 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, win in No. 1 singles, while Moinet showed no problems in the No. 2 singles winning 6-3, 6-4. True freshman Taj Hibbert rounded out TSU's single winners after he took down Vicente Arbelaez 7-5, 6-1.
 
Todd Smith's squad will now put their 1-0 record on the line as they are set to take on Ole Miss next Friday, followed by a trip to Mississippi State on Saturday.
