TULSA, Okla. – For the first time in program history, the Tennessee State men's tennis team had players qualify for the ITA All-American Championships.
Jonasz Dziopak,
Taj Hibbert, and
Nil Moinet all qualified for the tournament, consisting of the best 256 players in the nation.
Dziopak and Hibbert both traveled to the event and competed in the pre-qualifying draws this past Saturday, while Moinet was injured and could not participate.
The Tigers picked up two wins in the event as Dziopak and Hibbert picked up wins in the round of 256. Dziopak picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Anselmo Baptiste from Oklahoma, before falling in the next round 2-6, 6-2, 6-7 to Raul Garcia of Kennesaw.
Hibbert won his first match against Gordon Whitwell of Ole Miss 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and then fell 4-6, 1-6 to Peter Murphy of UNC Chapel Hill.
