Men's Tennis Sweeps Tennessee Southern, Falls to Troy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's tennis wrapped up their three-game weekend slate with two matches on Sunday at the Vanderbilt Indoor tennis courts. The Tigers dropped their first match of the afternoon to Troy 5-1, followed by a big 4-1 win over Tennessee Southern this evening to move to 2-5 on the year.
 
Troy 5, TSU 1
 
Troy started off the match by taking the doubles point, despite TSU winning in the No. 3 doubles slot as Nicholas Adamec/Nil Moinet won 6-2 over Andres Pastor/Martinez. The duo of Daniel Caraballo/Diego Britt-Alvarez was just edged in the No. 1 doubles 7-5. Taj Hibbert/Jonasz Dziopak fell 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles.
 
Taj Hibbert was the lone point-winner for the Tigers, as he picked up a 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles. Carballo (No. 1), Dziopak (No. 2), and Moinet (No. 3) all went three sets each despite dropping them. Caraballo was downed 6-3, 5-7, 1-6, while Dziopak fell 6-4, 4-6, 5-7. Moinet dropped his match by a score of 6-7, 6-4, 2-6.
 
TSU 5, UTS 1
 
Todd Smith's Tigers cruised to their second win of the season as they showed no signs of struggle against UTS. TSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point. Caraballo/Britt-Alvarez won 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles, while Hibbert/Pierre Copin won 7-6 in the No 2 doubles. Nicholas Adamec/Moinet handled business in No. 3 doubles winning 6-4.
 
In singles action, Caraballo locked down the No. 1 slot earning the 6-2, 3-0 win. Moinet won his match in the No. 2 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Dziopak cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles, while Copin dominated in the No. 5 slot earning a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Britt-Alvarez's match went unfished as he won his first set no problem 7-5, before injuring his ankle while up in set two, which is how UTS earned a point because he could not play anymore. Adamec Was up before TSU clinched. 
 
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they are set to travel across town to take on Lipscomb. Friday's match is slated to be played at the Richland Country Club and will start at 3:30 p.m.
