Flying Tigers Take Home Two Weekly Awards

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's track and field team had two athletes receive Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards for their performances in the Spec Town & Torrin Lawrence Invitational, hosted by Georgia this past Friday and Saturday.
 
Keandric Verge was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week, while Thurman McMullen took home the Male Freshman of the Week award.
 
Verge, a junior from Watertown, Tenn., had a great day in the jump pits for TSU as he logged a second-place finish in the triple jump with a 15.33m, which is the top mark in the OVC this season. He followed that up with a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.09m. Verge was the top college finisher in both events.
 
McMullen showcased his speed and leaping ability as he clocked a 14.31 in the 110m hurdles, which ranks first in the OVC this season.
 
The Flying Tigers will be in action on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. as they are set to compete in the James Madison Invite in Harrisonburg, Va.
