Men's Tennis Season Comes to Close in Horizon League Championship Semifinals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— The Tennessee State men's tennis team wrapped up its season on Saturday after falling 4-3 top-seeded Cleveland State in the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament.

The doubles draw saw impressive victories for the TSU team as they took the early 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Diego Britt-Alvarez and Nil Moinet secured a decisive win, defeating Carl Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud from CSU with a solid score of 6-3. Taj Hibbert and Rohan Loubser of TSU mirrored their teammates' success, clinching another victory against Kade Mindry and Nico Jamison from CSU, also with a score of 6-3. 

Hibbert secured a commanding 6-4, 6-3 victory in the first singles match at line two to put TSU up 2-0. CSU would secure two straight points to tie the match at 2-2 after earning wins at lines one and three. Chris Bogelin pushed TSU's lead to 3-2 after colling a win at line six, but no before CSU logged two straight wins to take the match. 

In the singles draw, the matches unfolded as follows:

  1. Taj Hibbert (TSU) def. Mikael Erler (CSU) 6-4, 6-3
  2. Lincoln Battle (CSU) def. Jonasz Dziopak (TSU) 6-2, 6-3
  3. Kade Mindry (CSU) def. Daniel Caraballo (TSU) 6-3, 6-4
  4. Chris Bogelin (TSU) def. Cole Chappell (CSU) 7-6 (7-2), 6-1
  5. Carl Gedlitschka (CSU) def. Diego Britt-Alvarez (TSU) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
  6. Nico Jamison (CSU) def. Nil Moinet (TSU) 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4

Despite falling short in the semifinals, the Tennessee State men's tennis team can be proud of their season after earning the program's first-ever postseason win over Youngstown State on Friday and winning the HBCU National Championship this past fall.
