Throughout the summer months leading up to the Tennessee State University Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet on Aug. 27, Tennessee State Athletics will highlight the members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026. This distinguished group of former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors helped shape the proud tradition of Tiger athletics through championship performances, individual achievements and lasting contributions to the university. Their stories reflect the excellence, perseverance and impact that have defined Tennessee State Athletics across generations.
Tim Horton | Men's Basketball | 1991-95
Tim Horton was a key figure in one of the most successful eras in Tennessee State men's basketball history, helping lead the Tigers to consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1994. A four-year starter from 1991-95, Horton earned All-OVC recognition three times, including Second Team honors as a sophomore and junior before being named First Team All-OVC as a senior. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, averaging 14.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while earning OVC All-Freshman Team honors. Horton continued to elevate his game throughout his career, becoming one of the conference's most versatile guards and one of the program's most reliable leaders. He earned OVC All-Tournament Team honors in 1994 after helping Tennessee State capture its second consecutive conference tournament title and scored 13 points against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. Over 115 career games, Horton averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game while contributing in every facet of the game. As a senior, he averaged a career-best 6.4 assists per contest while also scoring 14.3 points per game, showcasing his ability to both create and score. His leadership, consistency and championship success helped Tennessee State establish itself as one of the premier programs in the Ohio Valley Conference during the early 1990s, securing his place among the greatest players in program history.
