FINAL RESULTS | TEAM SCORES

NASHVILLE — An indoor season accompanied by several personal and broken records comes to an end after the Tigerbelles finished in third place and the Flying Tigers in fifth at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday.

The OVC championship took place in Birmingham, Ala. where sophomore Flying Tiger R'Lazon Brumfield was named the Male Athlete of the Championship. Brumfield won the individual first place medal in the long jump with a distance of 7.62m (25-00.00) and the triple jump at 15.56m (51-00.75).

Brumfield wasn't the only Flying Tigers to fly above the rest on the grand stage of the Birmingham Crossplex during the two-day event.

A pair of freshmen in Damon Hodge Jr. and Michael Thompson placed first and second, respectively, in the 400-meter dash with times of 47.64 and 47.73 seconds. Jamario Scott also found himself in the top-2 finishing second in the 200m dash (21.79).

Flying Tigers Desmond Tanner and Christian Williams placed fourth and fifth with times of 8.46 and 8.54 in the 60m hurdles. The TSU men's 4x400 relay team achieved a first place medal with a time of 3:16.26. The "A" team consisted of Hodge Jr., Thompson, Ashley Bailey and Scott.

Tigerbelles

Claiming the third spot by the TSU women's track and field team was spearheaded by a conference record throw in the shot put by Mikayla Thompson.

Thompson threw a distance of 15.73m (51-07.25) to place first and set a new record. The record was previously held by Courtney Gapelu of SE Missouri back in 2014.

Grenetria Shell and Nigeria Starks stood high on the podium with second and third place finishes in the 60m hurdles. The duo finished with times of 8.72 and 8.78, respectively.

The Tigerbelles also tallied a pair of top-5 finishes in the 400m dash. Lakeia Hill placed third (55.36) and Mikayla Banks (56.69) placed fifth. Hill also finished second in the 200m dash (24.23).
